The race to purchase Hurricane Valley Farm is on and Kristine, owner of The Creative Child and Adult Arts Program is helping!
The nonprofit Falmouth Land Trust has just secured the rights to purchase Hurricane Valley Farm (currently known as Capall Creek Farm). Located in West Falmouth off of Gray Road (Routes 26/100) at the Falmouth/Cumberland border, this scenic property consists of 62 acres of open fields, farmland and wetlands. The project strives to preserve one of the best remaining examples of Falmouth’s rural character. The land is currently approved for a 17-house subdivision but recent conversations with owner Kevin Smith led to the Trust signing a purchase and sale agreement which would permanently protect this landmark property.
The Trust has until June 15 to raise the majority of the $700,000 needed to acquire and steward the land. The Trust has approached the Town and asked the Town Council to consider contributing $400,000 to this effort; there will be a chance for public comment at a February 9Town Council meeting. The Trust will also be reaching out to the community and relying on significant private donations to help save the farm.
Donations to the Hurricane Valley Farm Campaign may be made online at FalmouthLandTrust.org or sent to: Falmouth Land Trust, P.O. Box 6172, Falmouth, ME 04105. For more information, please call (207) 200-5488 or email email@example.com.
